    La dimensión socio-cultural de los servicios ecosistémicos (SE) actúa como un paraguas que abarca los diferentes valores que tienen los individuos y actores sociales sobre los ecosistemas. Los valores socio-culturales son de discusión reciente y aportan a comprender mejor el conocimiento local y su rol en la toma de decisiones sobre el manejo de los SE. Para reflexionar acerca de los valores socio-culturales que diferentes actores sociales (academia, gobierno y organizaciones de la sociedad civil) le otorgan a los SE que obtienen de los humedales revisamos literatura desde diferentes fuentes con énfasis en Latinoamérica y el Caribe. Hallamos que el léxico empleado en la academia es diferente al usado en la sociedad civil y el gobierno. El uso de diferentes términos para referir-se a los humedales como a los tipos de SE o tipos de valores sugiere la relevancia del contexto local en el estudio de los va-lores. Además evidencia la necesidad de definir y encontrar sinónimos de los distintos términos empleados para realizar una revisión profunda. Apoyamos que es necesario enfatizar estudios socio-culturales que se complementen a la mayoría de los estudios ecológicos-económicos.

    The ecosystem services (ES) socio-cultural domain acts as an umbrella, allowing the inclusion of the different values that individuals and stakeholders have about the ecosystems. Socio-cultural values around ES are recently discussed, and they can contribute to gain a better understanding of local knowledge and its role in the decisions making about ES management. In order to reflect on the social-cultural values that stakeholders’ (scholars, governments, and social civil organizations) give to the ES that they obtain from wetlands; we reviewed different sources of literature with the emphasis in Latin Ameri-ca and Caribe. We found that the lexical used among scholars is different from that used in civil society and government institutions. The use of different terms to refer to wetlands, to the ES types or values types, suggests the relevance of the local context for every country and region, in the study of nature-related values. It also shows the need to find synonyms of the different terms used to carry out a deep review. We support the idea to emphasize the social-cultural studies as a complement to the majority of current economic-monetary and ecological studies.
