One of the most significant actions of the government of the Generalitat of Catalonia, after its post-Franco recovery, was the creation of public radio and television stations, having the explicit purpose of the linguistic normalization of Catalan and the implicit effect, thanks to its audience leadership, of being an element of cohesion in Catalan society. This article examines some of the factors, both positive and negative, which have influenced or have been caused by this social function, so closely related to the feeling of national identity.
