    Este artículo ofrece un acercamiento a la historia de la Cofradía de los Negros, que existió en Huelva desde, al menos, el siglo XVI hasta el primer tercio del siglo XX, siendo la única hermandad étnica de la ciudad. Para ello se han analizado las publicaciones existentes y, a continuación, se ha investigado en varios archivos de Huelva y Sevilla, atendiendo principalmente a las visitas pastorales realizadas a la vicaría de Huelva, donde se mencionaba a la hermandad. Por otro lado, a los testamentos, donde se han analizado las mandas religiosas, donaciones, limosnas y enterramientos de los testadores para averiguar los detalles de la cofradía. Se ha analizado además de sus fiestas, el patrimonio de la cofradía, así como el funcionamiento y organización de la misma.

    Cabe destacar que la Virgen del Rosario fue una imagen muy devocional en Huelva, y posiblemente su cofradía fuese la más antigua de la ciudad.

    This paper offers an insight into the history of the Brotherhood of the Blacks, which existed in Huelva from at least the 16th century until the first third of the 20th century, being the only ethnic brotherhood in the city. The research methodology involved analyzing existing publications, followed by investigating several archives in Huelva and Seville, focusing particularly on pastoral visits to the vicarage of Huelva, where the brotherhood was mentioned. This study examines the testaments, specifically analyzing the religious bequests, donations, alms, and burial practices of the testators to learn more about the brotherhood. Additionally, the study analyzes the brotherhood’s celebrations, heritage as well as its operation and organization.

    It is noteworthy that the Virgin of the Rosary was a highly venerated figure in Huelva, and her brotherhood was likely the oldest in the city.
