This paper deals with the classical thematic and retorical formation developed by the humanitatis litterae scholars. Their woks are studied in order to explorer their different genres: poetics, essays, grammars, philological criticism; their authors are considered too: from Juan de Mena to Fernando de Herrera, with special reference to these Seville writers: Nebrija and the "divine" Herrera, in terms of the influence exerted upon them by the thought and practice of the cotemporary figures of Italian Humanism and Renaissance.
