The goal of the paper is that of presenting the Côa Valley Archaeological Park (PAVC) Conservation Program, also providing an analysis of the weathering dynamics that influence the endurance of the Côa rock art heritage, inscribed by UNESCO in the World Heritage List. These dynamics decisively shaped the management and conservation strategies implemented and incorporated in the Corservation Program. The major inference of the undertaken analysis is that ah conservation efforts must be conducted, due to the lack of data on in situ schist conservation, in a prudent and informed fashion, supported by strong scientific information resulting from inclusive and rigorous previous investigation.
