Las obras de Piedrafita están situadas en el noroeste español entre Galicia y León. Las obras coexisten en casi su totalidad con la ruta secular europea del Camino de Santiago en su tramo conocido como ¿Puerta de Santiago¿. El paso del puerto de Piedrafita ha coartado históricamente el desarrollo gallego. La Autovía es de nuevo trazado y cuenta, como datos más generales con 10 enlaces, 42 viaductos, 7 túneles dobles, 5 pasos superiores, 24 pasos inferiores. Un dato significativo de la magnitud de las obras es que siendo la longitud total del trazado de 53.449 m, sobre viaductos discurren 10.726 m, que supone un 20% del total. Este artículo comenta tres de esas estructuras de mayor significado e importancia técnica.

The Piedrafita works are located in the North West of Spain between Galicia and León. The works coexist in virtually the whole of their length with the European pilgrim's way the Road to Santiago in the stretch known as the Santiago Gate. The Piedrafita Mountain Pass has historically been to blame for holding back development in Galicia.The motorway has recently been built and the most general features of its construction are ten intersections, 42 viaducts, seven double tunnels, five overpasses and 24 underpasses. A significant illustration of the magnitude of the works is the fact that 10,726 m of the total length of 53,449 m run over viaducts, in other words, some 20% of the total expressway section. This article reports on three of the most technically important and most significant structures.
