With Tren de sombras, by José Luis Guerín, this study establishes an analogy between the obsession in cinema to freeze images and movement on one hand, and on the other, the role of spectator as detective, as an analyst whose interpretations bring the traces of “the disappeared” back to life. Through documentary and story, reconstruction and narration, Tren de sombras (a metaphor for cinema), explores that small area between harsh reality and its narrativization, leaving the spectator to construct his own fiction, his own abstract fictions, out of this space.
