  • This paper explores the contradictions between the star’s image and society. The strong character identified with María Félix was constructed through her films as well as events associated with her public life. What are the responsibilities of film directors, film producers, and the star herself? In what way does her career in Mexico and in Europe reflect the different evolutions of the film world? How did she become a myth and what does this mean? Comparative historical research, based on film and non-film documents, textual and paratextual analysis completed by an overview of critics, writers and scholars’ opinions, show that María Félix remains a fascinating enigma.
