Resumen de Pedro Infante y el culto al cuate.

Sergio de la Mora

  • Pedro Infante, the most popular male idol in the history of Mexican cinema, is taken as the starting point for analyzing the cultural context of buddy movies in Mexico. As also happens in North American films, buddy movies are markedly mysogenistic, marginalizing the role of women, while explicitly rejecting latent homosexuality. In the case of Mexico, the male bond is stronger because of the traditional custom of “cuatachismo”, or “buddy-ism.” This study clarifies the strategies used to repress the representation of homosexuality in Mexican cinema during the Classical era.
