  • This article attempts to elucidate the cultural roots that gave way to the most popular film genre in Latin America, the “Ranchera” comedy. The author elucidates the ideology implicit in the recuperation of the traditional patrimonial society characteristic of Mexico. Exploring the ethnotypes presented in this film genre and its acceptance by the public clarifies how this genre evolved during the two decades in abstract which it was most popular.
