Resumen de Nuevos públicos, nuevos cines: la "Carmen" de DeMille y otras versiones de 1915
In 1915 three new film versions of Carmen came out, the most important of which was directed by Cecil B. DeMille and starred soprano Geraldine Farrar. This was a time when the film industry was looking for greater socio-cultural legitimacy, and was aiming to increase its audiences. Therefore, new discourses appear and great changes in movie production and film exhibition come about. DeMille’s film was competing against Raoul Walsh’s now lost version of Carmen which starred the famous vamp Theda Bara and, additionally, was parodied in a burlesque comedy by Charles Chaplin
