    Definir el miedo desde el punto de vista ontológico y su incursión en el plano de la estética es el objeto de este artículo. El miedo parece brotar de la condición más humana: la fragilidad. Además, el sentimiento del miedo es el signo más visible de "la inquietud de sí". El miedo significa el desorden, lo desconocido frente al orden y la belleza. La Modernidad literaria logra encarnar ese territorio de la alteridad y la diferencia. El miedo penetra en su dominio de la mano de lo siniestro y aliándose al sentimiento de lo fantástico.

    Defining fear from an ontological point of view and its presence in the realm of aesthetics is this article's objective: fear apparently emerges from the most human condition: fragility. Moreover, the feeling of fear is the most visible sign of "anxiety about the self". Fear implies disorder and the unknown in opposition to order and beauty. Literary modernity manages to give life to this territory of otherness and difference. Fear penetrates its dominion along with the sinister and in the company of the feeling of the fantastic.
