Redefinición del analfabetismo: el analfabetismo funcional

    En este trabajo, tratamos de delimitar el concepto de alfabetización funcional y el de su anverso, el analfabetismo funcional, en una perspectiva de redefinición del concepto, propósito que abordaremos siguiendo el hilo conductor de las siguientes fuentes: UNESCO, literatura especializada y últimas investigaciones realizadas sobre el analfabetismo funcional, realizando una síntesis valorativa de las perspectivas conceptuales y definitorias con respecto al alfabetismo y al analfabetismo funcional de autores de contextos tanto de economías avanzadas (del Occidente industrial y tecnológico), como de economías en vías de desarrollo (principalmente de Latinoamérica). Terminamos con una aproximación y/o redefinición del analfabetismo funcional que viene matizada, reforzada, por unas conclusiones que intentan destacar el carácter de capacitación que relaciona la alfabetización funcional con el proyecto social y que posibilita al alfabetizado incidir sobre la realidad natural, social, cultural y política, transformando y mejorando su calidad de vida.

    This work tries to determine the concept of functional literacy and that of its obverse: functional illiteracy, through the redefinition of the concept. This is done through the following sources: UNESCO, specialised literature and recent research on functional illiteracy, as well as through a summary assessing the conceptual and distinctive perspectives defended by authors from both advanced economies (those of the industrial and technological West) and developing economies (mainly from Latin America), in relation to functional literacy and illiteracy. Finally, functional illiteracy is tackled and/or redefined. This redefinition is explained and reinforced through conclusions that try to emphasize the qualifying nature that relates functional literacy to the social project, and that makes possible for the literate person to have an influence on the natural, social, cultural and political reality, therefore changing and improving his/her quality of life.
