Resumen de Escleritis asociada a enfermedades sistemicas

Objetivo/Método: Evaluar la relación entre el estado general del paciente y su relación con enfermedades oculares como la escleritis. Destacar la importancia del estudio sistémico en búsqueda de patología asociada con el fin de lograr un tratamiento eficaz.
Discusión: La escleritis es una enfermedad inflamatoria de la esclera que se puede asociar a graves complicaciones oculares. El 40 al 50% de los pacientes con escleritis podrían tener patología infecciosa o reumática asociada. Resulta muy importante realizar un estudio sistémico en todos los pacientes con escleritis e instaurar tratamiento general específico cuando estuviese indicado, con el fin de evitar complicaciones irreversibles para la funcionalidad ocular.

Objective/Method: We evaluate the relationship between the general condition of the patient and its association with ocular diseases like scleritis. We also emphasize the importance of a systemic screening when searching for associated pathologies in order to obtain an effective treatment.
Discussion: Scleritis is an inflammatory disease of the sclera that can be associated to serious ocular complications. 40 to 50% of patients with scleritis could develop associate infectious or rheumatic pathologies. A systemic screening of patients with scleritis is very important. Specific general treatment has to be employed when necessary so as to avoid irreversible complications of the ocular functions.
