Despite the common assumption that the German philosopher Theodor W. Adorno (1903-1969) did not write extensively about film, this article attempts to reveal how strongly cinema influenced Adorno’s conception of the cultural industry and emancipatory art.
Focusing on his text “Filmtransparente” (“Transparencies on Film”) published in 1966 by the weekly magazine Die Zeit, the authors briefly examine some of the aesthetic notions and philosophical paradigms that Adorno abstract displayed in that text.
