  El artículo reflexiona sobre el debate existente entre las tendencias tradicionalistas, seguidoras de una escuela disciplinar y repetitiva, y las tendencias renovadoras, defensoras de una escuela liberal y progresista. De igual modo, las corrientes tradicionales desprecian el valor de los MCS, mientras que las renovadoras consideran que los MCS deben ser utilizados como ejes de transversalidad, interdisciplinariedad y globalización que dan sentido a los contenidos

  This article is a thorough reflection on the controversy between traditional and innovative tendencies in education. Discipline and repetition are two of the main principles supported by traditional approaches. On the other hand, innovative approaches uphold freedom and progress in the modern school. At the same time, the former reject the outstanding values of the means of social communication and the latter consider that mass media should be used as crosscurricular, interdisciplinar(y) and global themes/subjects, giving sense to the contents.
