Resumen de La torre sur de la catedral de León: del maestro Jusquín a Hans de Colonia

Los estudios llevados a cabo con motivo de la restauración de la torre sur de la catedral de León, realizada en 1999, han permitido retomar el problema planteado en tomo a su autoría. Descartada la responsabilidad en la obra de Alfonso Ramos, se ha tratado de perfilar la personalidad artística de Jusquín, maestro de la catedral entre 1445 y 1481 aproximadamente. Se ha ampliado su catálogo escultórico con la atribución de nuevas obras que le sitúan en plena sintonía con los recursos formales procedentes del mundo flamenco. El análisis estructural de los cuerpos superiores de la torre, erigidos entre 1458 y los últimos años de la década de los setenta, ha permitido constatar la presencia de una impronta alemana difícil de asumir en el haber del maestro Jusquín. Para resolver esta aparente paradoja y sin negar su dirección de la obra, se plantea la hipótesis de que la traza de los cuerpos intermedio, superior y de la aguja saliera de manos de los Colonia, en concreto de Hans, en la misma medida que se le ha atribuido la planta de la catedral gótica de Astorga.

Upon 1999 restoration of the southem tower of the cathedral of Leon, there has once more arisen the question of who the author of this work is. Once Alfonso Ramos' authorship has been discarded, studies are being focused in the artistic profile of Jusquín, master builder ofthe cathedral of Leon from aproximately 1445 to 1481. Jusquín sculptural catalogue has been widened as more materpieces have been attributed to him. These new attributions have clearly placed him within formal Flemish style context. Structural analysis of the upper elements of the tower, which were erected between 1458 and the late 1470s, has led to the conclusion that these elements have a marked german style which is difficult to find in master builder Jusquín. With the only purpose to clarify such apparent paradox and without denying Jusquín's responsability as master builder of the tower; the hypothesis arises that the design of the higher levels of the tower (middle and upper elements and spire) might belong to the Colonia 's and, particularly to the skilled hands of Hans of Colonia, in the same way he has been given the authorship of the ground plant of the gothic cathedral of Astorga (Leon/Spain).
