    Ofrecemos una lectura de tres poemas de Gabriela Mistral, cuyo tema central es el dolor de no pertenecer y el deseo de retornar al origen. Dos de ellos corresponden al libro Tala y en ellos se describe la experiencia de desarraigo de una hablante, que habiéndose marchado de su país natal, recuerda con amor y nostalgia ciertos objetos, personas, costumbres y convicciones que conserva del tiempo en que vivió en su país de origen y también en otras regiones en que ha permanecido, y a las que también ha amado. Todos estos amores suyos son el contenido del "país de la ausencia". El tercer poema pertenece a Lagar, vuelve sobre el mismo tema de los anteriores, pero trae un aspecto nuevo. Ofrece una visión luminosa del pasado histórico latinoamericano, y desde ahí se vuelve con esperanza hacia el futuro, tiempo que podría incluir incluso la utopía.

    We present in this essay a reading of three poems by Gabriela Mistral. All three deal mainly with a painful sense of not belonging and with the wish to go back to one's origins. Two of the poems are taken from Tala. They record the suffering of a woman who left her home country and remembers lovingly and nostalgically not only objects, persons, habits and beliefs from her lost home country , but from other places as well where she dwelled and which she loved. All these things she does no have but still loves are the contents of "the land of absence". The third poem belongs to Lagar. It repeats the central theme of the previous two but introduces something new. It presents a brilliant view of the Latin American remote history, casts a hopeful sight into the future, a time when even Utopia could come to be.
