Resumen de Luchando por la paz y la justicia: reflexiones sobre el militantismo de las mujeres en Irlanda del Norte

Este artículo analiza el activismo de las mujeres de Irlanda del Norte a favor de la paz y de cambios legislativos, políticos y sociales en las úlitimas décadas. Ante un conflicto que suponía la pérdida de seres queridos, la destrucción de las familias o el peligro para sí mismas, las mujeres iniciaron un movimiento plural, basado en el respeto de las opiniones y el reconocimiento de las diferentes procedencias. Las mujeres organizaron, juntas, acciones que trascendían las barreras del sectarismo sin dejar de aceptar la exisctencia de desacueros. Dichas acciones, su evolución y su resultados para las mujeres y para las comunidades respectivas constituye el eje central de este trabajo.

This paper analyzes women's activism in Northern Ireland during the last decades in their fight for peace as well as political, social and legislative changes . Having to cope with a conflict that took their loved ones away, destroyed family life or threatened their own lives, women have launched a plural movement, based on the respect of differents point of views and the recognition of each other's origins. Together, women have organized actions that have crossed the sectarian divide all the while "agreeing to desagree". Their activism, the evolution of the movement and their success regarding the women and their respective communities respresent the backbone of this study.
