In spite of being the two most omnipresent social phenomena of the twentieth century, there has never been a point of convergence between soccer and cinema. The crux of the problem has to do with time: film language is unable to convey to the screen the effect produced by watching live soccer. Thus, filmmakers look for alternatives using stories that deal with soccer themes.
