Sin embargo, tuvo un papel esencial al traducir el Essay on Phlogiston and the Constitution ofAcids, que condujo a desechar la teoría del flogisto sobre la combustión y a sustituirla por la actual = In this papen I Nave tried to show the active and continuous part that women have taken in scientific advances, since the 18"~ century. The ins- tances of madame Lavoisier are analysed here.
As regards Mme. Lavoisier, although she assumed the role of Mr. La- voisier's assistant in translating, ilustrating (engraving) and organising, she played an essential part translating the Essay on Phlogiston and the Consti- tution of Acids, wich led to discard of the phlogiston theory about com- bustion and to the present theory.
incidentally, her second husband, count Rumford, was responsible in exploding another old theory, that of caloric.
