State and Political Parties: The Dangers of «Partitocrazia» in L. Sturzo [JOSEF MONSERRAT] Is it possible that the reflections of one of the founders of one of the most important xx century parties can show us the dangers of «partitocrazia»? Reading the texts written by Luigi Sturzo, the founder of the italian PPI, the author shows how the new party concept wanted to be an alternative to the xix century italian political system. The irruption of mass parties, non commited to the principles of liberal democracy distorted the implementation of Sturzo's party concept. After the Second World War, italian politics remained submited to party power. This article tries to discover the principles that guided Sturzo's critical reaction.
