  • The challenges of multiculturality [JOSEP MIRALLES] Immigration in Catalonia is a social reality which is taking on increasingly greater importance, and which is perceived by many as a threat to their identity, although it is actually a challenge that can lead to a livelier and more dynamic society. And a project of coexistence is needed to face up to this challenge. This project must take the emotional character of conflicts between communities of different cultures into account. It must be based on a clear respect for Human Rights and must favour pluralism between those already strongly rooted in the country and the roots of those arriving. Religion may play a positive role if the internal tendencies in each religion which are favourable to dialogue and cooperation are developed.
