Resumen de La lucha por la herencia en una familia de Xochimilco del siglo XVI

  Los archivos están repletos de pleitos de diferente tipo. Lo atractivo de este caso en particular es un contexto que nos puede resultar de lo más familiar: la lucha entre suegra y nuera por la herencia del hijo o marido (según sea el caso) fallecido. No obstante, lo más importante del presente estudio es la variada documentación que poseemos en torno al caso, la cual va desde manuscritos pictográficos hasta textos alfabéticos, tanto en nahuatl como en español. Es gracias a esta riqueza documental que hemos podido interpretar tres manuscritos pictográficos que fueron presentados por las dos partes para reforzar sus respectivas reclamaciones.

  The archives are filled with disputes of different kinds. The interesting aspect of this particular case is the context which may seem of the most familiar to us: the fight between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law about the inheritance of the deceased son or husband. However, most important of this present study is the varied documentation at our disposal concerning the case; from pictographic manuscripts to alphabetical texts both in Nahuatl and Spanish. Thanks to this richness of documents we have been able to interpret three pictographic manuscripts that were presented by the two parts in order to reinforce their respective claims.
