    Tras la victoria de Franco en la guerra civil, se produjo un proceso mitificadordeJosé Antonio Primo de Rivera como gran mártir de la Patria. Una mitificación por el que José Antonio quedaría convertido en la moderna reiteración arquetípica del drama vivido por Cristo en su crucifixión. La posterior glorificación del fundador de Falange, a través de la ceremonia de su multitudinario entierro, constituyó un notable ejemplo del intento falangista de construir una religión política en España erigida en torno a la sacralización de la nación. La marcha funeral del gran Ausente ritualizando a la nación resurgente y al Estado totalitario vivificó, también, a la nación católica y tradicional celebrando la nueva recuperación de su consustancialidad con lo español. Esta dualidad ideológica puso de manifiesto la imposibilidad de un proyecto totalizador falangista de religión política que tendría que convivir con la poderosa Iglesia católica.

    After the francoist victory in the Spanish Civil War, a process of mythification of José Antonio Primo de Rivera as the great martyr of the Patria took place. Through that mythification, José Antonio became the modern reiteration of the archetypical drama of the Christian Passion. The subsequent glorification of the founding leader of Falange through the great ceremony of his burial was a good example of the falangista try to construct a political religion in Spain built around the sacralisation of the Nation. The funeral procession of the great ¿Ausente¿ representing the revived Nation and the totalitarian State was a representation, as well, of the Catholic and traditional Nation celebrating the new restoration of the Spanish Catholic character. This ideological tension showed up the impossibility of a totalitarian and fascist project of a political religion and its necessary coexistence with the powerful Catholic Church.
