Resumen de El projecte d'estrena al Teatro Real de Madrid de l'òpera Els Pirineus, a través de la correspondència de Víctor Balaguer a Felip Pedrell: estratègies i malvolences

  Para Felip Pedrell, la Ópera Els Pirineus debia representar el inicio de su propuesta de música nacionalista. Víctor Balaguer, autor del libreto, y, a su vez, de la obra literaria en la que se basaba la obra, era uno de 10s precursores mas activos del movimiento catalán de la ((Renaixengan. La correspondencia entre ambos, compositor y literato, recoge 10s mas íntimos detalles del proceso de composición de la ópera, al mismo tiempo que refleja las diferencias palpables entre el ideari0 estético de Pedrell y el de Balaguer; podemos deducir la claridad de idea del compositor ya desde el inicio. Los avatares por 10s que pas6 la fase de promoción de la obra explica la suerte que a esta le cup0 en el futuro. La selección del epistolari~ que ahora se publica constituye un documento histórico de primera mano.

  For Felip Pedrell, the opera Els Pirinew was meant as the starting point for his project of nationalist music. Victor Balagué, author of the libretto and also of the literary work on which the opera was based, was one of the most active members of the Catalan literary movement known as the 'Renaixenqa'. The correspondence between the two, composer and writer, draws together the most intirnate details of the process of opera cornposition, at the sarne tirne as reflecting the very evident discrepancies in aesthetic ideals between Pedrell and Balaguer. Frorn the outset we are able to deduce the clarity of the cornposer's ideas. And the moments of varying fortune that the work undenvent throughout its promotional phase explain the great success that it was later to have. This selection of collected letters constitutes a historical document of considerable irnportance.
