This article provides strength and conditioning specialists with information about acute exertional rhab-domyolysis (AER) in terms of identification, prevention, and rehabilitation. Individuals with AER have musculoskeletal signs which are often precipitated by intense bouts of strenuous eccentric exercise. Individuals suspected of having AER should be referred immediately to an emergency room for prompt medical attention. Strength and conditioning specialists, athletic trainers, and coaches may be ultimately responsible for recognizing this condition.
