Halimium halitnifoium is a woody Cistaceae species occurring locally in the Western Mediterranean. At Dorlana Natinal Park (S. Atlantic coast of Spain) Halimium hatinufolium is the main coniponet of stable sand vegetation., growing on contrasted enviromental conditions from floodabie depresions to fixed dune summits although it is more abundant on the slopes of the fixed dune ridges with water table 2 to 4 m deep, where it dominates scrub composition. Together with morphological modifications (hairy leaves and twigs) it also exhibits structural and ecophysiological adaptations, controlling physiological variables under stress conditions.
