En este artículo se analizan Ias propuestas hechas por algunos diputados del primer Congreso Constituyente mexicano para conmemorar a los héroes de la independencia. En él se propone que los grupos en pugna por el poder durante el primer imperio mexicano buscaron el reconocimiento de los personajes que podían contribuir a legitimar y perpetuar el sistema político que deseaban establecer. Por ello, la selección de los héroes se convirtió en bandera de distintos proyectos nacionales: la monarquía constitucional y la república.

This paper analyses the proposals made by some deputies of the first Mexican Constitutional Congress to commemorate the independence heroes. I propose that the political groups competing to hold power during the first Mexican empire, seek the acknowledgment of those figures who could contribute to legitimate and perpetuate the political system they wished to establish. Therefore, the heroes selection turned into a banner for different national projects: the constitutional monarchy and the republic.
