This paper, originally part of a lecture delivered at the University of Vigo in July 1994, considers widely and in detail the situation of the topic "Literatura Inglesa" (English Literature) in several University Curricula after their revising in line with European standards and their subsequent appearance in the B.O.E. (Official Gazette of the Spanish State) since 1993.
The paper pays attention to the new Curriculum in "Filología Inglesa" (English) now in operation at the University of Valladolid as well as to equivalent new Curricula at 15 other Universities in Spain. The most evident conclusions concern the notable increase in the presence of the topic "Literatura Inglesa", not only as a compulsory one but also in combination with other related topics offered as optional; the chronological presentation, both direct and inverse, of subject-matter; and the generalising focus on optional topics.
