  • Resumen
    • This paper departs from two considerations: namely, that the Latinate lexicon is an essential element of PDE word stock, and that it is markedly different from the Germanic section of the English vocabulary. As a consequence, acquiring the Latinate vocabulary of EFL on the part of those learners, such as the Spanish, whose own L 1 is a Latinate language, should imply using ad-hoc teaching strategies. A number of such strategies are put forward herewith. The application of this to similar situations (EFL teaching to L 1 French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, or Catalan learners) is possible allowing for some minor adjustments, and is therefore left to the discretion of the reader.
