The tendency of using conversion in English is not new but it is becoming very common nowadays. The present study aims at this linguistic process known as conversion, functional shift or zero derivation. Some linguists consider this process of word-formation at the same level as derivation or compounding.
Considering these perspectives, we try to offer a detailed analysis of conversion of adjectives into nouns, in examples taken from the spoken language, newspapers and literature, its importance and frequency, and try to discover the reason for this phenomenon.
