  • Due to his intellectual formation, Alexander von Humboldt was inclined to sciences and industrial progress in mining. At the beginning of the 19th century, the mines of New Spain were going through one of their most splendorous periods. The German scientist's visit contributed to increase the glow of precious metal s exploitation. Upon his arrival in Mexico, he had the fortune of participating in a high level academic ambience and took advantage of the scientific advances to incorporate them in his writings. As a matter of fact, the Ensayo político sobre el reino de la Nueva España was independent Mexico's presentation card for the rest of the world.
