This review article is devoted to three recent studies dealing with the relationship of the Catholic Church to the deep-reaching changes in Mexico and Argentina as a result of the Atlantic Revolutions. As a comparative perspective, through examination of the relationship between modern democracy and the Catholic conception of the State in Germany since 1789 will also be included.
