Los orígenes, los cambios y la variedad de los límites administrativos que conforman el actual mapa municipal español son temas que interesan a la Geografía política.
El presente artículo se centra en el análisis de la extensión superficial de los municipios de Andalucia. Representa un estudio introductorio a un análisis más afinado de los mismos. Los autores examinan el tamaño o dimensión de los términos municipales y las alteraciones de los mismos. En el primer caso, se tiene la oportunidad de conocer la diversidad y contraste entre estas unidades locales básicas. En el segundo, al introducirse en la agregación, fusión y segregación de los entes locales, se muestra las variaciones que ha sufrido en las últimas décadas la organización territorial.

The origins, the changes and the variety of the administrative border that conform the current Spanish municipality map are subject contemplate by the Political Geography.
The present article is focused on the analysis of the superficial extension of the Andalucian municipalities. It represents a preliminary study to a more complete analysis. The autors investigate the size or dimension of the townships and their modifications. In the first case we get to know the diversity and contrast among those local basic units. In the second one, as it deals about the aggregation, merger an segregation of the local entities, it shows us the variations that the territorial organization has suffered in the last decades.
