La doctrina social de l'Església (DSE) ha estat una de les grans influències en el creixement i la consolidació deis partits democratacristians, al llarg del segle XX i arreu del món. Molts deis funda-dors d'aquests partits en tenien un coneixement directe i profund, tot rebutjant els sistemes econòmics i socials extrems plantejats fins aleshores per d'altres opcions ideológiques. Pero la seva aportació pot anar més enllà: a més de les orientations més estricta-ment politiques (reflexió, judici, acció), la DSE també ha aportat pistes respecte de la manera i l'estil de fer política que ha convertit l'humanisme deis partits democratacristians en alguna cosa més que un element ornamental o abstracte. A partir d'aquí, ha estat possible dotar de més transcendència a les opcions habituais d'aquests partits i la seva practica diària, centrades en el respecte a la persona, la cerca d'una economia social de mercat o l'opció preferencial pels menys afavorits económicament.

The Church's Social Doctrine (CSD) was one of the major influences in the growth and consolidation of Christian Democrat parties throughout the 20th Century all over the world. Many of the founders of these parties had a deep knowledge of it, rejecting the economic and social systems thitherto addressed by other ideological options. But their contribution went even further: besides the more strictly political orientations (reflection, judgement, action), the CSD has also helped in the form and style of politics, which have converted the humanism of the Christian Democrat parties into much more than an ornamental or abstract element. From this point it became possible to afford greater transcendence to the usual options of these parties and their daily practice, focusing on respect for the individual, the search for a social market economy or the preferential option for the less fortunate.
