Los estudios sobre el liberalismo han entendido que la interpretación de la libertad política que Constant y Berlin habían desarrollado resultaba casi idéntica. Este acuerdo, compartido por gran parte de la bibliografía actual -incluida la corriente republicana de Skinner y Pettit-, pasa por alto una distinción fundamental en re estos dos pensadores. Mientras que Berlin otorg a la libertad positiva un interés secundario, Constant la concibe como la única y suprema garantía de la libertad de los modernos. Este artículo quiere mostrar las diferentes interpretaciones que de la libertad han dado dos reconocidos liberales.

The liberal tradition has believed that the interpretation of liberty exposed by Constantand Berlin was almost identical. This agreement , shared by the whole present bibliography-the republican trend of Skinner and Pettit included -, doesn't pay attention to one ground distinction between these two thinkers . Whereas Berlin holds that the positive freedom is just a secondary instrument, Constant defends that the liberty of the moderns isn't real without the support given by the 'liberté des anciens'. This papers aims to show the different interpretations of liberty within liberal tradition.
