    En el sureste de la Región de Murcia se está confi gurando un área urbana. Está habitada por casi un millón de habitantes, cerca del 70 % de la población regional en poco más del 20 % del territorio. Sus centros urbanos básicos son Murcia y Cartagena. No es sólo un eje sino un espacio multinuclear, complejo y variado. Sobre un poblamiento rural, de huerta en una parte, ahora se superponen formas de urbanización difusa, con numerosos resort de fi nalidad turística y de ocio. Su integración funcional es creciente y complicada. Signifi ca el área de mayor importancia económica y funcional de la Región y con un peso destacado en el conjunto español. De ahí la importancia que merece. Se analizan sus potenciales y debilidades así como su modelo de organización territorial

    In the southeast of the Region of Murcia an urban area is confi guring. It is inhabited for almost a million inhabitants, near the regional population's 70% in little more than 20% of the territory. Their basic urban centers are Murcia and Cartagena. It is not only an axis but a polycentric area, complex and varied. On a rural territory, of "huerta" in a part, now forms of diffuse urbanization are superimposed, with numerous resort of tourist purpose and of leisure. Their functional integration is growing and complex. It means the area of bigger economic and functional importance of the Region and with a weight highlighted in Spain. Of there the importance that deserves. Their potentials and weaknesses are analyzed as well as their model of territorial organization.
