Resumen de ¿Por qué decimos que "no podemos hacer intervención social"?

Una queja muy común entre los trabajadores sociales es la de no poder hacer intervención. Este es el punto de partida de éste artículo, en el que se plantea la necesidad de profundizar en aspectos como la importancia de la teoría para el Trabajo Social, el sentido de nuestra profesión en la sociedad actual, los fines que se persiguen con nuestras intervenciones, qué es hacer intervención social y cuáles son los pilares básicos de nuestra intervención, así como la existencia de un ineludible dilema ético ante el que se encuentran los trabajadores sociales a la hora de tomar decisiones que afectarán a la vida y a la persona de aquellos a quienes atendemos. Éstos son los aspectos los que dan cuenta de las dificultades de hacer intervención social.

A frequent complaint among social workers is that it is not possible for social workers to do authentic social work and that it is only possible to manage social resources. With this starting point, this article studies the need to delve deeper into areas such as the importance of theory for Social Work, the meaning of our profession in current society, the goals that are pursued through our interventions, of what it means to do social work and what are the basic tenets of our work, as well as the existence of the unavoidable ethical dilemma in which social workers find themselves when they have to make decisions that will affect the life and person of our clients. These aspects tell an account of the difficulties involved in doing social work.
