Alcala del Jucar's castkle appears defiant from the top of a smail meseta. According to the authors this castle is the most ancient of this region, being built to protect the way through the river where it was easily waded across. Although the four castles that occupy the Albacete's Jucar riverside give the feeling of forming a defensive jine, the authors defend the idea that this happenss to be so more by chance than by any other reason. Aporadically used until the Carlist Wars, it began deteriorating when these ended. Alcala del Jucar's castle was recently restaured aorund 1970-1980 and nowadays shows us its ancient features from an incomparable setting.
