La Novela Histórica de Sir Walter Scott titulada The Heart of Midlothian ofrece determinadas claves para poder abordar un estudio comparativo entre la formación y el desarrollo de los nacionalismos hispánico y británico. A diferencia de otros países europeos, las tradiciones jurídicas y sociales características de ambos territorios se constituirían en serios obstáculos y motivo de conflicto a la hora de configurarse las nuevas nacionalidades que se fraguaron en el ocaso del Antiguo Régimen.

The Heart of Midlothian, Sir Walter Scott¿s historical novel, offers some keys to undertake a comparative study between the formation and the development of the Hispanic and British nationalisms. Unlike other European countries, the legal traditions and social characteristics of both territories would constitute in serious obstacles and a reason for conflict at the time of forming the new nationalities that were forged in the decline of the Old Regime.
