El análisis de la evolución histórica del territorio y del paisaje sólo se ha apoyado excepcionalmente en la lectura e interpretación de documentos cartográficos, siempre ocupando un segundo lugar frente a las fuentes escritas. Para salvar esta carencia, el primer objetivo de la investigación ha sido localizar tales documentos, estudiar sus cualidades físicas y sus contenidos, y formar una base de datos cartográfica cuya consulta fuera accesible a otros investigadores; y en segundo lugar, definir una serie de pautas para la utilización de este material gráfico en el conocimiento profundo del desarrollo histórico de los territorios de la cuenca del Duero.

The analysis of the historical evolution of the territories and the landscapes has been seldom based upon the cartographic documents, that have always been set in a second place after the texts and writings. Trying to bridge this gap, the first target of the search is to find the ancient maps that are already preserved in the main spanish archives and libraries, to study them and to create a cartographic database that can be used by other searchers; and secondly we will define several patterns that can be applied in a deep knowledge of the historical development of the territories of the Duero basin.
