In 2001, the Foundation Lasker awarded the prize Albert Lasker Medical Research Basic to the same three winners Nobel that today we convened: Mario R. Capecchi, Martin J. Evans and Oliver Smithies, "for the development of a powerful technology to manipulate the genome of the mouse with exquisite precision for the creation of animal models of human diseases". Once again, the awards of the Foundation Lasker have become a precursor of the Nobel Prizes.
