    Beneficiary of the Ottoman heritage, holder of institutional privileges, focus of the nationalist exaltation and powerful through conscription, the army is a permanent actor in the political life of Turkey. Though periodically withdrawn into its headquarters, this actor continues influencing the national destiny behind the scenes. This article intends to understand the political role of the army in Turkey and to distinguish its decisive levels.

    Bénéficiaire de l’héritage ottoman, détentrice de privilèges institutionnels, portée par l’exaltation nationaliste et renforcée par l’emprise que la conscription lui offre, l’armée en Turquie est un acteur permanent de la vie politique, un acteur qui, même s’il se retranche périodiquement dans ses quartiers, n’en continue pas moins à l’arrière-plan d’influencer la destinée nationale. Cet article a pour objectif central de saisir le rôle politique des militaires en Turquie et d’en cerner les niveaux décisifs.
