    La tesi de la singularitat del Tirant lo Blanch respecte a la producció narrativa del segle XV, que els millors crítics sovint han subratllat, potser deriva del fet que l¿obra no ha estat situada amb prou encert dins el marc de la novel.la europea de l¿època. Existí a França des de finals del segle XIV, i gaudí d¿un gran èxit, un tipus de novel.la que, tot i tenir unes dimensions més reduïdes que el Tirant, en compartia els trets de versemblança geogràfica i històrica, el realisme relatiu dels esdeveniments i dels personatges, el lligam entre empreses cavalleresques i trames amoroses, etcètera. En aquesta perspectiva, el Tirant apareix com el punt d¿arribada d¿un procés de desenvolupament de la narrativa.

    The thesis of the uniqueness of Tirant lo Blanch versus the overall narrative output of the 15th Century, which the best critics have often highlighted, may stem from the fact that the work has not been successfully placed within the framework of the European novel of the epoch. In the France of end of the 14th Century, there was a type of novel, which reaped great success, and which, albeit shorter than Tirant, shared the latter¿s traits of geographical and historic similarity, the relative realism of events and characters, the bond between chivalresque undertakings and romantic plots, etc. In this light, Tirant comes as the point of arrival of a process of development of narrative style.
