Resumen de Los españoles de Norteamérica y la Guerra Civil (1936-1939)
This article explores the reaction of the Spanish colony in the United States to the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The analysis of the Spanish press published in the U.S. during the war, the extent of the activities of partisan organizations, and the volume of funds collected by them, shows that the majority of the colony favoured openly the Republic and engaged in propaganda activities. Apart from monographs and memoirs, the main sources are pro-Republic publications (Frente Popular, La Voz, La Prensa, El Antifascista, El Galeón ) and pro-Franco publications (Cara al Sol, España Nueva from September 1937 on, Época). Documents located in the National Archives of Washington, D.C., the General Archive of the Administration of Alcalá de Henares, and the Archive of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Madrid have been also valuable
