El propósito del trabajo es estudiar el siglo XVII novohispano, especialmente aquellos aspectos relacionados entre pensamiento y espiritualidad jesuitas, gracia y libertad, creación y bondad, puruficación de la razón y un lenguaje que tiene como referencia la polémica suscitada por la Reforma, a saber: el problema de la distinción entre gracia eficaz y gracia suficiente. La práctica de la meditación fundada sobre la concordia entre gracia y libertad confiere a la austeridad moral tonos que a fines del siglo XVII y a lo largo del siglo XVIII materializa la Compañía de Jesús. La concordia entre gracia divina y libertad humana serán el punto de partida del barroco jesuita entendido como capacidad creativa y forma nueva de incidir sobre la realidad.

The purpose of this work is to study the XVIIIth century New Spain in those aspects related to jesuit thinking ans spirituality, grace and freedom, creation and kindness, purification of reason and a language that has as reference the polemics suscitated by Protestant Reform: the problem of difference between effective grace and sufficient grace. The practice of meditation founded on the concord between grace and liberty confers to moral austerity some tones that at the end of XVIIth century and along the XVIIIth is materialized by the Society of Jesus. The concordance between divine grace and human liberty will be the starting point of the jesuit baroque, these latter concept understood as creative capacity and a new way to influence over reality.
