The present article first discusses the «ideological» implications of the use of the terms «post-colonial» and «postcolonial» in some recent publications, mainly Elleke Boehmer's 1995 Colonial & Postcolonial literature and John Thieme's 1996 The ArnoldAnthology 4 Post-Colonial Literatures in English. It then tries to situate these uses with regard to current discourses on English Studies and on postmodernism.
