Las Versiones Bascongadas written by J. A Mogel are the first catalogue of exempla translated into Basque language, and are for this very reason of a great importance. This way of transmission of Classic Tradition in Basque Country during the XIX century was due to a European momentary interest for Basque language. The figure that better represents this interest is, without any doubt, W. Von Humbolt. Mogels work, therefore, answers to a need of presenting Euskara, which is the proper name for Basque language, to European educated people. In order to be a well considerate language In Europe Basque language should show that it was capable of transmitting Classic culture by its own means, and the way of demonstrating that was to appear itself expressing like Classic languages via translation.
