This article covers the first volume of the T.E.R. of the Master's Course in Basque Studies. presented in October 1998 in the interdisciplinary Faculty of Bayonne, Interuniversitary Department of Basque Studies, under the direction of Professor J. B. Orpustan (outstanding mention). Its main objective is to fill an important vacuum: the ignorance on the journalistic work of Chaho. The first work established an exhaustive inventory of all the articles, whether signed or not, by Chaho or other authors of Ariel in Bayonne, from October 1844 up to January 1846. We then chose several topics on which the reading of Ariel provides us with abundant information, on, among other things, some points of Chaho's Parisian and Bayonnaise biography, and on his concern for the orthographic unity of the Basque Language.
